A Memorandum of Understanding has been issued between Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the International Institute for Local Development
for the implementation of IILD’s flagship programme, the Trade Health Education and Microfinance Programme (THEMP) in Nigeria. IILD/THEMP and FMARD will be working together to:
- Propagate effective and efficient methods of development through interventions that improve the social and economic conditions of disadvantaged populations.
- Transform and unlock the wealth potentials in agriculture to ensure food security and employment creation.
- Alleviate poverty amongst rural poor households and enhance regional growth in participating republics in Africa.
- Enhance rural agricultural economy of Nigeria, with particular focus on eliminating poverty by linking rural producers, workers, and businesses to market opportunities through the implementation of FMARD strategies.
- Facilitate the development of the selected value chains, including cassava, cashew, cocoa, cotton, groundnut, maize and sorghum.
